Stump Grinding

Stumps ground out well below the surface so you can finally reclaim that part of the garden.

A leftover stump is more than an eyesore. It can sprout new growth, attract termites and white ants, trip people up, and get in the way of new turf, garden beds or paving. Our stump grinders chew it out fast, well below ground level.

We bring the right size machine for the job, from compact grinders that fit through a side gate to larger units for big River Red Gum stumps, and we can grind out one stump or clear a whole block.

Common questions

Stump grinding questions, answered

What is stump grinding?

Stump grinding uses specialised equipment to remove a tree stump from the ground. It reduces trip hazards, tidies up the look of the garden, frees up space and helps stop pests and fungus taking hold in the old stump.

How much does stump grinding cost?

It depends on the size, location and condition of the stump and how much clean up is involved. We do not use fixed rates because every job is different, but we will give you a free quote so you know the cost before we start.

Why grinding rather than full stump removal?

Full removal means digging out the entire root ball, which tears up your landscape. Grinding removes the visible stump and lets the roots break down naturally, so there is less equipment, less mess, less damage and a lower cost.

How long does it take to grind a stump?

It depends on the size, access and clean up, but grinding can take as little as ten minutes for a small stump, up to a few hours for a large, well established one.

Can I plant a new tree in the same spot?

Not straight away. The wood chips need time to settle and the old roots need time to break down. We can advise on the best time to replant in the same spot.

What are the benefits of stump grinding?

It improves the look of your garden, frees up space for lawn, planting or parking, removes a trip hazard, and stops the old stump becoming a home for pests and fungus. It also prevents the stump sprouting again.
